Welcome to Seton C P School on behalf of the whole school and community.

We are a small rural school situated in the picturesque village of Staithes just off the A174 which links Teesside to Whitby. The small seaside village famous for its links with Captain James Cook, is a popular holiday resort and attracts many day visitors throughout the year.  We have the advantage of having the seaside on our doorstep and we make the most of this wonderful natural resource.

We are fortunate to have spacious grounds, which includes a Forest School area, a large playing field with a running track, a peace garden and a playground.   We enjoy a wide range of sports and adventurous activities as part of our regular timetable.

We have strong links with our partner schools in the Whitby, as members of both the Esk Valley Alliance and the Yorkshire Coast Partnership.

Our school aims to provide children with the best education possible.  We develop children's knowledge, skills, talents and interests through memorable activities and experiences designed to bring out the best in every child.  We nurture and support children to develop a thirst for knowledge and a determination to achieve the very highest standards.

Our approach is called The Seton Way  and is founded on our three core values:

  • AMBITION
  • COMMUNITY and
  • EXCELLENCE.

Our vision is for all of our children to have the ambition, knowledge, skills and confidence they will need to succeed, now and in the future, in our rapidly changing world.  To achieve that, our curriculum offer is designed to ensure children have access to a wide range of opportunities both within and beyond our locality, which will enrich and expand their expertise through meaningful experiences.  We regularly visit places of interest, such as museums, theatres, National Parks and sports facilities and we welcome inspirational visitors such as Olympic athletes, professional musicians and artists.  We foster a positive attitude towards the local and global community, developing in the children a sense of their place within it.

Our dedicated staff team have the highest expectations of our learners and determine to ensure every child is successful.  In addition to academic success, we are equally committed to developing pupils’ personal development including their behaviour, manners and attitudes.  We are especially proud of our extensive emphasis on music, sport, languages and art.  Unusually, for a primary school, we are proud to be able to employ specialist staff in these areas and the standards we achieve in these more vocational subjects is exceptional.

We are able to provide free before and after school care to all children from Reception to Year 6.  Our talented staff provide opportunities for children to take part in arts and crafts, games, sports and competitions during their time at the club.

We understand the importance of a close partnership between home and school, based on honesty, confidence and trust.  We have a programme of events, workshops and activities which parents are warmly welcomed to attend and regular progress meetings to ensure parents are kept well informed.

It is a great privilege to be the headteacher of such a friendly, happy and successful school and I would be delighted to welcome families to look around our wonderful provision if you are thinking of enrolling your child at Seton.

We hope you will find our website informative and that it gives you a taste of our school. Please contact us on 01947 840257 for any further information.   We hope to meet you soon.
