Land Ahoy!

Our new topic is called ‘Land Ahoy!’

Yo-ho-ho and a bottle of rum! Get ready to take the high seas and set sail in search of treasure!

In this topic we will be reading information books, investigating amazing sea rescues and writing poetry influenced by the sea. We’ll study paintings of boats and draw detailed pictures of our own. Our science skills will help us to understand how boats float and we’ll design and make model ships using a variety of materials. Our map reading skills will help us to identify different seas and oceans and we’ll learn about famous sea explorers. Stories of pirates will inspire us to make pirate flags, treasure maps and fact files.

After the success of last week’s project-based homework, we are going to continue this in the current topic. Children enjoyed sharing their work with others and both Miss Jackson and Mrs Bentley were amazed by the amount of time and effort which was put into them. We have provided you with a list of ideas (see attached) for this topic just to get you started.

Shiver me timbers; it’s going to be good!
