Welcome to the new term and new academic year.

We would like to inform you of a few changes happening in Class 4.  Firstly, we have asked all children to read for at least five minutes each night and record it in their reading record.  Doing so will help them to develop comprehension skills and also help to expand their vocabulary and imagination. Ideally, if you are able to listen to your child read and question them about the book, that will also help with their understanding of the text. This will be monitored on a weekly basis to encourage and celebrate good reading habits.

Secondly, `traditional’ homework will not be given out this year.  Instead, we are going to ask children to complete a project, linked with our termly topic, which will be presented at the end of each term. A letter will be sent out each term which will explain what is required.  This should not only be more engaging for children but will also give everyone the opportunity to demonstrate talents and interests in a way which traditional homework doesn’t.

Your child will need their PE kit in school from Monday to Friday every week. Please ensure that all clothing is named.  PE kits consist of a white t-shirt, navy blue/black shorts and plimsolls.  Along with this, your child will need trainers in school every day and appropriate clothing for the Daily Mile.  During the colder months this might include tracksuit/jogging bottoms and/or sweatshirts.

We start swimming on Friday 21st September 2018 and will be attending this weekly.  The new weekly sessions will help children to achieve greater progress in swimming, which is a vital skill for children living in our coastal area.

We have also signed up to `Times Table Rockstars'.   Please encourage your child to access this at home as much as possible.  In doing so, your child will learn  times tables quickly and (hopefully) enjoy doing so.  They will also develop a greater understanding of a range of mathematical concepts.

If you have any questions at all, please do not hesitate to contact us.

Many thanks for your continued support,

 Mr Evans and Mrs Pearson
